Finished Work of Jesus, God's Power and Healing, Part 6, God's Way of Delivering Divine Healing
Throughout God’s Word, Old and New Testament, we see that God’s Way to accomplish His redemptive plan for mankind involves working through people. Some examples: Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jonah, the Prophets, John the Baptist, Jesus, Peter and Paul.
God's Way of Delivering Divine Healing Does Involve Working Through People
You could profess that it is God’s choice to work through people. Or, you could profess that the reason God works through people is because He gave dominion over all the earth to mankind when He created the earth and all living things. (Genesis 1: 26 & 28) Or, you could profess a number of reasons are involved.
God did give mankind dominion "over all the earth." If God did not work through people you could argue that God lied to Adam and Eve and, thus, God lied to all mankind. The purpose of this particular writing is not to debate what mankind’s dominion over all the earth means, but it is an important truth to ponder. I believe it is a key reason why God has chosen to use those who believe on Jesus Christ to deliver divine healing today.
Jesus Christ in Command of the Mighty Works
God the Father gave Jesus Christ the authority to be in command over His Mighty Works done here on earth. Please read Part 4 of this series.
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.
Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me: or else believe Me for the very work's sake. John 14: 10-11 (KJV)
This passage tells us that while Jesus walked in the flesh upon this earth, the mighty works that were done came from the Father who abided in Jesus. The healing miracles were done through the power source of God, the third person of the Trinity whom we call the Holy Spirit. Jesus sitting at the right hand of God is still in command over the mighty works done on earth.
Jesus Christ Gives Believers Authority to Do Mighty Works - Deliver Divine Healing
Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14: 12-14 (KJV)
Jesus Christ gives authority to those who believe on Him to use His name for the purpose of delivering mighty works of God - delivering divine healing.
Healing Miracles Are Spoken Into Existence
An Old Testament Example - Hezekiah's Healing
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said. This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, Remember, O Lord how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears, I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life. 2 Kings 20:1-6
God worked through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah spoke the healing word from God to Hezekiah; Hezekiah received it in wholehearted faith and in obedience and was healed.
New Testament Examples
In the New Testament we see that God the Father put Jesus Christ, the Son of Man and Son of God, in command over His Mighty Works done on earth. We see that Jesus spoke miracles into existence and miracles were received through faith. In essence, the healing miracles were brought forth by the Holy Spirit from the spirit realm into the natural physical realm through speaking them into existence and receiving them in faith. I will provide an example from each of the four gospels:
Matthew 9: 27-30 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, Yea, Lord. Then, touched He their eyes saying, According to your Faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened. . . .
Mark 1: 40-42 And there came a leper to Him, beseeching Him, and kneeling down to Him and saying unto Him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And, Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
Luke 4: 38-39 And He arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought Him for her. And He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
John 4: 46-54 And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto Him, and besought Him that He would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The nobleman saith unto Him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way: thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth; and himself believed, and his whole house.
Spend time pondering the healing miracles done through Jesus. He is the commander we are to follow.
Healing Miracles Today
You can read and view numerous testimonies that hold true to God’s Way as described in this writing. Speaking the miracle into existence through the power and work of the Holy Spirit and receiving the miracle in faith. Jesus tells believers we are to share His gospel and heal the sick. The two are intended to work together! Jesus did not direct us to pray for the sick, but, instead, to heal the sick.
Grandson's Birth Miracle
My youngest daughter, Cathy, was two weeks overdue with her second child. She went into the hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2007, where at about 11 a.m. the medical staff began the process of inducing labor.
Several months before the baby’s due date, I began sensing that there was a reason why I was to be with her during the delivery of this baby. I did not sense anything bad was going to happen, but that I needed to be there with her. I was pleased when Cathy invited me to be in the delivery room with my son-in-law to observe the birth of this precious grandson.
All the rest of that Thursday, Cathy continued to have contractions, but no baby. My granddaughter and I slept overnight in the waiting room. No baby came during the night.
Cathy had been given an epidural drip to control the amount of pain she felt during contractions. Late Friday morning, the decision was made to reduce the amount of the epidural flow in order to increase the feeling of contractions, which they thought would help her when she started pushing. It was about 1 p.m. when they told her to push with each contraction. Everything was in order for the little one to soon be born.
I watched my daughter push and push hard with every contraction. She spiked a fever, which meant some form of infection was in her body. She was miserably hot. Usually there were two nurses in attendance and they served as coaches during each contraction and commented on her progress. Which, in truth, there was no progress. And, I watched my daughter push and push hard with everything she had in her. Hour after hour went by. The baby did not move. One of the nurses told us that when she checked Cathy, she thought the baby was face up. Three times a doctor came in and checked her. Each time, the doctor told Cathy the baby might have to be delivered by Caesarean section.
The third time the doctor came in to check her, she informed Cathy that they needed to prepare for a C-Section. Cathy was told she could push during three more contractions, then they were going to do the procedure.
At this point my son-in-law, in his own words, "lost it". He began weeping and left my daughter’s side. I know this was the Holy Spirit speaking in me saying, "you call yourself a woman of faith." I got up and went to my daughter’s side and tried to pray over her. I did not know what to pray since I understood that the commonly practiced way of praying for healing is not an effective way to pray. So, I stood by her side and started praying softly in tongues.
Then, the nurses, having put on their surgical garb, came back around the bed and I sat back down. The first contraction came and went, as did the second, no movement. The third contraction was about to begin. I stood up and went back to my daughter’s side, placed my right hand on her abdomen, Cathy grabbed hold of my left hand, and, I simply spoke these words "Lord Jesus, it is time for this baby to be born."
Immediately, baby Jacob started moving down the birth canal. My daughter pushed. I watched the doctor turning and turning the baby. I saw the doctor move the umbilical cord, from under the baby’s arm and around his chest, out of the way. Cathy said she felt every inch of the baby as he made his way out. After 25 hours of contractions and another four hours of hard labor and hard pushing, ten pound Jacob finally entered this world on Friday, June 15, 2007. Cathy and I, along with at least some of the medical staff, knew a miracle has just taken place.
Thank you Jesus for making this miracle possible through the price you paid with your blood at the cross! Thank you Jesus for giving me the authority to speak this birth miracle into existence through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Jesus for revealing in this way, to my daughter and to all who read this, who you are to the glory of our Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14: 13-14
Jacob and I have a special bond between us. You can understand why I have a very special place in my heart for him. Every Sunday I drive 75 miles one way to care for him on Mondays and Tuesdays while his parents work. Not because I have to, but because I want to spend time with Jake and his sister. Often, I ponder on this miracle.
I wish to discuss more about prayer, about the Holy Spirit and His work and about the spiritual gift called the Word of Knowledge. My plan is to cover these topics further in the next writing, part 7, of this series.
With love in and through Christ,
