Before the following discussion, would like to emphasizethat our salvation has nothing to do with our work or our deed. Yes, we are saved because of our faith. We are saved because of GOD's grace and mercy. All are mercy. All are grace. Man has nothing to brag. Man has nothing to boast.
The main verses to support our salvation is because of grace and nothing to do with our work is Ephesians2:8-98For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God;9it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
However, would like to point out that if we just have faith believing in that there is a GOD, Satan also believes in that there is a GOD. Even if we have the great faith to believe in that GOD is love and GOD is Almighty. Luciferalso knows that.
Why Lucifer fall then, because Lucifer is proud and do not follow GOD's Commandments and give glory to GOD.
Beside having faith, we have to love GOD, and because of loving GOD, we love our neighbours.
Mark 12:30-31: 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'31The second is: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.
If we love GOD, in order to show our love to GOD, we have to comply with GOD's precepts and commandments. This is the very reason of our deeds to be good. We behave not because we want to be be good. We behave because we want to comply with the rules of GOD in order to please GOD.
Galatians 1:10Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!
Our only purpose to behave is to please GOD, this is because of GOD is holy, sacred and love, the greatest love. In order to please GOD, we have to behave.
As a result, any work or good behavior with the reason of let ourselves look good is useless and futile in front of GOD. This is also the reason that our work will not lead us to salvation.
All of benevolentdeeds and good behavior should be with the intention to please GOD and for GOD. Give GOD the glory and show our gratitude to GOD: our Creator, our Savior, our Father, our Lord.
Kindly find what Jesus Christ, our Lord said in Matthew Chapter 7 in the Beatitudes teaching:
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The key wordfor our good wrought is complianceto GOD's teaching.
A lot of people just memorise Ephesians 2:8-9, however, it is better to memorise Ephesians 2:10 at the same time, i.e.
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Pray for all of us love GOD wholeheartedly, stoutheartedly, gratefully andobeywith HIS Commandments.
In Christ name.
Well said. Yes, our righteousness is still a dirty rag, and we are not 'doing God a favour'. But ... works are called works ... because they are our job.
I like what it says in Luke 17:9-11 about this. We should be servants and not too proud to do the lowly or humble parts, not expecting special thanks or commendation for any of it.
Just like in the human context, if we don't do our job for God ... we could be fired for showing we are lukewarm in our faith.
Also I would like to say that you make a great point about the memory verse from Ephesians
I will be adding this to my memory, with God's help. I need it because my memory can be bad
Thank you Raymond and God bless you and your family,
Thank you for sharing this message and pointing out even the saving grace of faith in Christ is a gift from God. Even more, we are HIS workmanship created for good works in Christ. The good works of The Kingdom which you point to can only be done by abiding in Him and through the power of Christ and His Holy Spirit! It all begins and ends with Him. To Whom all glory, honor, and praise is due.
Thank you in Him,
'Faith without works is dead', scripture tells us. Unless one would believe James is not part of scripture. Anyhow, according to this you can't have one and not the other.
A new creation means new, not the same one we had before. And 'born again' don't mean what comes later.
Examine yourselves Paul wrote. One can be sure others will.
IF ye love Me, keep My commandments, Jesus Christ said. So yes, it is love that truly brings obedience.
God bless you brother. Thanks for the discussion.
About the good works, we want to do to please GOD. We do the good works because of our faith in GOD, HIS Almightiness, Love and Righteousness, this causes the good deeds.
In other words, we are saved totally because of our faith. The faith that drives the change in value, mind, behavior... we are no more belonged to this world but belonged to Jesus Christ.
In other words, if somebody says that he has faith but there is no change in his behavior or living attitude, somebody should check whether he really has faith in GOD.
This is to please GOD and plea for HIS mercy, not to do work for GOD or do GOD a favor.
If this is to please GOD, this is totally at the mercy of GOD. All are mercy.
Nobody could say to GOD, because he has done this and done that, and then he asked GOD to give me this and bestow me that.
All are mercy. All are grace.
GOD do not need us to help HIM.
All the above discussion is GOD-centred. Any doctrine which puts man in the centre have already trespassed GOD's sovereignty.
GOD is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.
In Christ name.
