Many of us are serving God in one way or another. He should be pleased with our service to Him but at the same time, He also watches over our attitude so that He will impart more gifts, more anointing and more of Him unto us.
Well, its’ easier said than done. We want to do all things in our lives with the right motives and with the right attitude, don’t we?
The right attitude in serving God brings about the right and fruitful results but the wrong attitude brings only strife, anger, disunity and wickedness, to name the less!
Think about our service to God. Be it ushering in the church, welcoming the newcomers, giving the announcement, preaching, teaching, telling someone about Jesus, praying and intercession, well the list goes on.
Whatever we do for the Lord in small or big ministry, do them with the right attitude for God. Do not wait for the next person to do a better job; for we are to do the job with our best effort and with our best attitude.
In the business world, we all know that attitude is everything! The insightful and wise boss does not promote someone based on his intelligence or connections but on the person’s attitude.
For attitude is everything! We know the success on any endeavors is based on our right attitude. So if it works for the world in general, it also works for the works of God too! It works the same way for God Himself. He looks at our attitudes in respect to our service to Him before He promotes us in our ministries and in our lives.
Just the other day, I was packing up some evangelism tracts for the next day’s street evangelism. I was physically tired and told myself to make do with what were in the bag for the next day. This would mean that I might not have enough of the right language tracts for the next day as I usually targeted foreign workers of Asia in my street evangelism.
As there were so many language types, I might not bring the right one along if I would not re-pack as it was possible to give out to as many of 6 foreign groups on some days.
Quickly I re- checked myself and my attitude and told myself that I should not be careless and took God’s work so lightly.
I ought to have the right attitude in my service to God in whatever He had laid on my heart to do. I ought to treat each tracting session as the most important session and as the most important appointment with the people I was to meet.
For some of these people would be meeting Jesus for their first time in their lives. And I was His ambassador and I ought to have the right attitude of an Ambassador, someone who would bring the Good News with love, with compassion and with willingness to serve and bless everyone that I would meet.
The next two days in my daily reading, I read Philippians chapter 2, which was the best example of the right attitude and I wanted to share them with all readers and all Christians.
Philippians 2:5 to 8
5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus
: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
In addition, we were instructed to have the right attitude as shown in the following verses:
1) Verse 2-- having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose
2) Verse 3- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves
3) Verse 4-- Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others
4) Verse 14-- Do everything without complaining or arguing.
If our Lord Jesus has the right attitude in His service to the Father, who are we to have lesser right attitude than Him? Right?
For everyone who is serving the Lord, it’s time to check our attitude, check our attitudes to others and also check our attitudes to fellow ministers too.
Our attitude should show humility, show our pure love for God without any hidden agenda and should also demonstrate our unity with each other.
It’s time to think about our attitude in our service for God? Do you consider your ministry more important than so one else? Do you think you can do a better job than another Christian? Do you despise someone else’s ministry or their simple work for God? Or do you think you can do anything without God or without His help? Are you careless in your ministry or are you doing only your second best for the Lord?
If you have any of one, it’s time to check your attitude! Be like Christ in His attitude
and be Christ like in our ministries to Him.
Thanks for reading. I only pray that we will all serve God with the right sincere attitude so that He will multiply and anoint our ministries for the furtherance of His Kingdom on this earth. Amen.
