Away from the cares, worries and fears...

Lately we've been beset by manner of worries and fears and cares, that plainly just make us unfruitful in the knowledge of God. God did not calls us to this and he warns in the Parable of the sower that this kind of situation, the weeds and the thorns, choke the word and it doesnt' reach maturity, even if it is alive while dead. And this can come upon us rather suddenly. Suddenly we have a whole bunch of things that occuppy our hearts and minds. In Colossians 3:1-17 it says, ["... 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him...] This segment in Colossians give us a chart overview of what our basic life should really be like and look like. And we should turn away from the world and its ways. In Ephesians 4:17-28 it also reminds us of what our holy living should look like. It says, ["... 17Now this I say and(A) testify in the Lord,(B) that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do,(C) in the futility of their minds. 18They(D) are darkened in their understanding,(E) alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to(F) their hardness of heart. 19They(G) have become callous and(H) have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20But that is not the way you(I) learned Christ!- 21assuming that(J) you have heard about him and(K) were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22to(L) put off(M) your old self,[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through(N) deceitful desires, 23and(O) to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24and to put on(P) the new self,(Q) created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you(R) speak the truth with his neighbor, for(S) we are members one of another. 26(T) Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27and(U) give no opportunity to the devil. 28Let the thief no longer steal, but rather(V) let him labor,(W) doing honest work with his own hands, so(X) that he may have something to share with anyone in need...] So Ephesians and Colossians take us back to what our life should look like and warn us of what can beset us. We hope we come to a better understandind of how we should live a life worthy of the calling of God. May you be blessed. Amen. thbg

Amen. Many times I have been brought to these verses when I am slowly slipping back into my old way of thinking and sin.
1 Peter 4:1-6
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles-when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. 5 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
We have already spent enough time following after our lust, lets follow after God.

Thank you 'goldie' for your comment, amen and exhortation to live a life worthy of God. But I think that's when we have to pray for each other that God helps us in our weak moments and stay away from sin and its grip on us. Thank you for your further bible study into the matter. It further enriches us to know more of this prevalent problem we all have and we are in this together. I'm comforted that I'm not alone in my trial. May you be blessed. Amen.
