From Devotional to Devotional...

Sometimes when I run out of my own 'Devotional' I turn to the Devotional of others. Perhaps get a different perspective or some way of looking at something from the blind side. A kind perhaps. In my March 12 entry, the little book I found it turns to Phil.3:8-9 and it talks about giving everything up for Christ..., [...8Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-...] Well let's put fire to this and turn to John 14, somewhere it says this about the holy spirit, [15(AA) "If you love me, you will(AB) keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another(AC) Helper,[f] to be with you forever, 17even(AD) the Spirit of truth,(AE) whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and(AF) will be in you. 18"I will not leave you as orphans;(AG) I will come to you. 19(AH) Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but(AI) you will see me.(AJ) Because I live, you also will live. 20(AK) In that day you will know that(AL) I am in my Father, and(AM) you in me, and(AN) I in you. 21(AO) Whoever has my commandments and(AP) keeps them, he it is who loves me. And(AQ) he who loves me(AR) will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and(AS) manifest myself to him." ] Paul says in Phil.3:2, [...2Look out for(A) the dogs, look out for(B) the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3For(C) we are the circumcision,(D) who worship(E) by the Spirit of God[a] and(F) glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh-...] And certainly the law of faith is not license to disobedience to God and or a blank check to do what-ever we want to do. We have freedom but it is a controled freedom with a regard to concience of what the bible teaches. In the new life the Holy Spirit keeps guard over our concience and it is him that determines whether something is right and and wrong. God lives in us through the holy spirit and that is the way he has communion with us and with our thoughts and actions. We certainly don't trust on our own flesh to accomplish anything. We've given that up- our own self effort. There's really more strength in confessing our weakness that to think we can walk 3 miles on water on our own strength. So yes we have abandoned all things to claim Christ and what he has for us through life in the Holy Spirit. May you be blessed. Amen. thbg
