The coming of the Spirit...

I browing through my bible and I came across a very important incident in history, the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. We turn there to Acts 2:1-8, ["...1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?...] Many churches have been formed with this theme in mind, the coming of the Holy Spirit or being baptized from above, like it is called. And there's lots of controvery on that. But we'll just let it go its way. I more thinking about the old testament called the feast of weeks. Let's turn there, ["...Exodus 34:22 (Whole Chapter) And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end. Deuteronomy 16:10 (Whole Chapter) And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the LORD thy God, according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: Deuteronomy 16:16 (Whole Chapter) Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:...] And observing the old testament, we see that the people were to give on Pentecost and not recieve. And we should not think that those on Pentecost were commissioned by God to go in way of 'get' but a way by which by the spirit given to them would be a blessing to other. And it's a process of bringing in the converts by giving them the gospel. And we have something else called the wavesheath, We turn there, ["...Leviticus 23:11 (Whole Chapter) And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. Leviticus 23:12 (Whole Chapter) And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the LORD. Leviticus 23:15 (Whole Chapter) And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:...] And this is curious, the preist were to 'wave' the sheaf of grain and let the air pass through it and make it free, wave it in the air, make it public, make the Lamb or Grain Offering and show it to everyone. And thus you let everyone know that you were putting out something to the public in front of God. And thus Jesus, the goal is to make, and wave him in public and call everyone's attention to him, the offering, a Lamb without blemish. And thus the church on Pentecost were to make Jesus public, preach the gospel and had the spirit in them to carry out that mission like we do today and broadcast Jesus in the air and wave him and make him public for any one and everyone to call on him... Many Blessing. Chow! thbg

And we come to think on something. That some don't come to wave Jesus and the gospel but put on light themselves, their group and thier ideas about what the truth and Jesus really is. The coming of the spirit was to empower to the work of God and not to have a social club where the focus is on themselves, their name, organization and their own agenda. And usually in these churches or organization what is preached is what the people want to hear. The church committee hires and pastor and tell him the outline of what he is to say or...

And when we wave the 'sheath offering' in the air, we make him no only free to everyone, but we make him free from the obligation to please a particular group, ideology, or current syndrome. Thus waving the Lamb in the air to make him free has a lots of dimensions. But the main focus is to give him away and not a means to get something back by claiming association with him...

Be blessed. Amen.

And this outcoming of the Spirit is an important even because with the spirit came the truth. Jesus outlined it but, now it was availiable to be spread in a mega dimension. You could say it was the birth of the Church led not by Jesus in person but by the Spirit and we confess Jesus is with us in the Spirit to direct us and comfort us when in trouble...

Blessings. Chow!

Brother thbg:

What a timely blog! You've covered a portion of what is consuming my mind today, the coming and role of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus says "you will do greater works than I", He is saying exactly what your message is here. We are given the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us, most clearly. but to what purpose?

So that we can go forth into the world with Jesus living in our hearts. So we can overcome our earthy nature to glorify the Father.

Well done, brother...

Shalom,

I will always try to 'apply' what I learn whenever possible... some of my examples may be 'lame' to some but it helps me put things into perspective and be able to be applied in my life- ie put into practice/action. I need the Holy Spirit so much!! to me it's liken to having to cut down a tree with a manual saw or having a 'power-tool/saw'- the empowerment and the enablement of the Holy Spirit upon me!! Not only do I have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in me, but also His love and power which 'over-flows' in and through me... How blessed indeed!!!...

Thank you 'jnissi' for your fine comment. We pray the holy spirit continues to 'over-flow' through and be the best witness for Christ and the truth entrusted to us. May you be blessed. Amen.

Bye! Take care!

Dear thbg--One thing which separates the Old Testament from the New Testament is the coming of the Holy Spirit to indwell and teach and comfort us. I believe that event was second only to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. ;) YBIChrist--Ron.

Thank you Ron for sharing, but I must say that the holy spirit is truth and God has always told the truth to everyone even if we did not believe or obey his voice...Keep in touch! Amen.
