Why would we want to help anybody...?!

I was reading the intro page of the anthology "Emma" by Jane Austen, and was reading a preview entries of some parts of the book. And supposedy in page 86 it says, "There are people, who the more you do for them, the less they will do for themselves..." And I have a family member that way that doesn't eat until someone else is hungry and put something on the microwave for everybody to eat. And this kind of thought just make stop being charitable to any sluggard who doesn't want to sweat a little... But it is discouraging to read this things when we want to embark in a new life of giving and sharing. Taking on another book on writing essays, it says how to convince and persuade and analyse in an essay. And I ask about that book, will clever argument really convince anyone, if not only entertain them with passing knowledge meant to be discarded and forgotten once I log off and go to something else. I can remember the good o' days when we had instant messaging in this site, why it was wonderful when people were not busy... And we don't miss it, now that we know that everyone is just busy minding their own business, and I suppose I should learn to do the same, narcissist attitude. We turn to Acts 21:1-6, ["... 1 After (A) we tore ourselves away from them and set sail, we came by a direct route to Cos, the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara. 2 Finding a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, we boarded and set sail. 3 After we sighted Cyprus, leaving it on the left, we sailed on to Syria and arrived at Tyre, because the ship was to unload its cargo there. 4 So we found some disciples and stayed there seven days. They said to Paul through the Spirit not to go to Jerusalem. (B) 5 When our days there were over, we left to continue our journey, while all of them, with their wives and children, escorted us out of the city. After kneeling down on the beach to pray, 6 we said good-bye to one another. Then we boarded the ship, and they returned home..."] And is says, ...while all of them, with their wives and children, escorted us out of the city. After kneeling down on the beach to pray,... These were not 'busy' people who did not have time to PM each other by they went to the beach and everyone knelt down to pray. Now what is my life like? Do I care what happens to others who refuse to help themselves? Can people readily help themselves in their blindness and spiritual poverty? And it is catchy, why don't people take care of themselves and stop being a burden on the rest of society? Why should we carry the dead weight and extra luggage when we are helping ourselves...? Turn to Jude 12-13, ["... 12 These are the ones who are like dangerous reefs [a] at your love feasts. (A) They feast with you, nurturing only themselves without fear. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; (B) trees in late autumn€”fruitless, twice dead, pulled out by the roots; 13 wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars (C) for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness (D) forever! (E)..."] Should we help this people, wandering stars, full of shameful deeds,...? ["... 20 But you, dear friends, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, (A) 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, (B) expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. 22 Have mercy on some who doubt; 23 save others by snatching [them] from the fire; (C) on others have mercy in fear, (D) hating (E) even the garment (F) defiled by the flesh..."] And dear freinds, build up the your holy faith, keep yourselves in the love of God, have mercy on those who doubt, save others anatching them from the damnation fire and other fear in helping them, lest you are carried away with them, their pit is so deep and their darkness so great, you need to very ready to come back to safety in due time, before everything collapse around them...! May you be blessed. Amen. thbg
