chosen, adopted and accepted into gods family

I have been thinking a lot of late about the truth that we all belong to the family of God. The Bible speaks of 'sonship' and by implication 'daughertship.' This concept first introduced by Jesus which has been recorded in John's gospel. This radical theme was taken up by Paul in a number of his letters and I have been intrigued of late that we are not orphan spirits.

It is remarkable that this revealed truth was not released by the Father until Jesus walked this earth for I believe we cannot belong to the family of God unless we are born again and heave been sealed by the spirit which is our certificate of co-heirs with the Son.

As I was meditating on this glorious truth I was lead to Ephesians chapter one.

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. NIV

In these two verses (4 & 5) we find that we the spirit filled believers have been Chosen, predestined and adopted. {The KJV adds accepted ~ but the best manuscripts translate the Greek as 'God has bestowed His favour upon us.'}.

The first truth to make clear is that all this was motivated by love. As a result of God's love we are where we are today in him ~ hidden in Christ because he first loved us. Secondly this love existed before the beginning of time. God's love preceded the beginning of the world.

Whatever your theological persuasion I cannot go past the solid truth that all this sonship is of God, for it is clear we play no part on the salvation stage. God chose us, he predestined us ~ which to my mind is saying the same thing. This is made clear to me in verse

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

It was God's plan devised well before the foundation of the world to bring mankind to himself as one redeemed family under the headship of Christ. This was his plan; this to me is predestination. Nothing to do with double election theology.

The concept of adoption implies more in the minds of the first century church than we understand the term today. Hence we must be careful not to place our understanding on such a rich word. The Greek used is ~ 'huiothesian' which literally means the 'placing as Sons.' This Greek word is different from that used for 'children.' The use in the Bible of sonship implies a legal transaction whereby a child is given full rights and heirship not by birth but by adaption. This adaption became legal after the child had been tutored in the ways and learning of the Father. Birth made him a child; adoption made him a son as if he were a biological son. This I believe is the meaning Paul is conveying in verse 3.

who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

A child is one born of God but a son/daughter is one taught and schooled by the Father through the Holy Spirit. He/she is striving for the fullness of Christ from glory into glory. They have attained a degree of holiness, blamlessness and maturity

Notice the order. We are chosen, predestined, adopted, and favoured by God. Say these steps aloud: “I am chosen, predestined, adopted, and favoured by God.” Use these truths as weapons against the doubts of the enemy saying them aloud to his face ~ for it is written.'

We are not rejected, nor do we have no family, not only chosen and adopted but favoured by God. How can we say that we are lonely and not wanted when we have been accepted into Gods family?

This is exactly what has been on my heart this week, wmj; using God's truths as a weapon against the enemy. Praise the Lord for how He has placed this writing on your heart to share with us!
