How are we Robbing God

Continuing to read through the minor prophet Malachi I was captured by chapter three, for I heard the Holy Spirit, say that my people today are robbing the Father.  As recounted in chapter three, the people respond with, ‘How are we robbing God?’  In my vision I heard the same cry come up today from the church as the Father points out that we his chosen people are robbing Him.

The Holy Spirit responded in my spirit with these simple words, ‘My people are robbing me of their time.  Today in 2017 many disciples in the body of Christ are time poor, not only in secular affairs but in our walk with God.  As I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit I recalled the verse in Ephesians 5:16.

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – KJV The Greek word translated redeeming has the meanings of-

1/ to buy back from the power of another.

2/ to make wise and sacred use of every opportunity.  It is this sense that the NIV renders the verse.

I believe we need urgently to take stock of the amount of time that we spend in the Lords presence as compared for our ‘other’ obligations.  All too often we fail to remember that we are in a covenant relationship with our Father with obligations on both sides.  Gods ‘duty’ is, having brought us out of darkness, is the keep us safe and free from our former master.  Our ‘duty’ in return is to spend time in the house of the Lord.  Spending time in worship, thanksgiving, praise and prayer.

After all when God breathed into our nostrils he breathed his DNA into us; meaning that we are for ever joined to him in spirit.  When sin broke the relationship, God through his Sons life has redeemed us back to him, but often we erect barriers, and like the prodigal son we go into a far country time wise.

Are we making the most of our opportunities to be in Gods presence during our working day?  I am not suggesting going into the ‘classical closet,’ but rather a few thoughts on the scripture verse the Holy Spirit has laid on our hearts that morning.  Or a silent word either in our mind or in the spirit of praise and thanksgiving.

Is it time to put away that cell phone, the TV remote?  Are we making the most use of our time to establish our faith?  Is it time to begin to choose to make an effort to press further into the heart of the Father?  For many there will be the need to take step back into the Fathers presence, for we have come to or senses and realized that the husks of this world do not satisfy.  As in the prodigal son’s story, our Father is watching and waiting to run to us as we decide to redeem our time.

When we take a step in the Fathers direction he will take two steps towards us.  It is time to stop robbing God of the time that he has given us.  Today we need to choose to take back the time that the enemy has taken from us and give this time back to our Father, who is the father of all time.  It is time says the Lord that you begin to take steps, to take back the time that has been allocated to me, by creating habits to move and stay in my presence.  As in chapter three of Malachi the Holy Spirit says

Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.    NIV
