It has taken me almost a life time to realize that the thoughts and words that we speak can either bring life or death to our spiritual life. By the use of our tongue, we can either be walking by sight or walking in the spirit. Our words will either lift us up spiritually into God's blessings, or pull us down into darkness with a curse over our heads.

The sad fact is that most believers do not realize the power that the tongue can wield in our growth, into the purposes that God has ordained for us from the beginning of time. This is because we are under a deception, having been seduced by the enemy's soldiers. The majority of Jesus followers do not realize that we have to enforce the victory of the cross in our own life. The Bible tells us emphatically to fight the good fight of faith ~ sadly a high percentage of Christians have defaulted on this struggle and have been strangled by the principalities, powers, rulers in the high places and the powers of darkness.

Slowly I have had my eyes open to this deception concerning our tongue for out of the heart the mouth will speak and when this dawned on me I was frightened for I knew that I had sinned, for who can tame the tongue? One of the weapons of righteousness that the Lord has provided for us as part of our armour is the sword. The sword is the authority that has been given to us fight snakes, the powers of darkness and demonic beings. For although we live in the world our weapons are not worldly, but spiritual that can pull down strongholds and bring life, health and deliverance into our being.

Coupled with the sword, is the belt on which the sword hangs and so it is true in the spiritual as in the Romans armour; for both truth and the word are intertwined together; for when we speak truth we bring life to ourselves and to others.

Sadly man believers are as the word says always learning and hearing the truth but never coming to a knowledge of the strategic use of the word of God as a weapons of life and righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:7. It is time the church of God had the cataracts of their eyes removed to see the deception the church has lived under for generations and to relearn the art of sword fighting.

I am relearning that when we are in the midst of our wrestling with the forces of evil we are beaten when we do not know how to use or sword; hence we make these tactical errors. Firstly we speak and think the enemies lies rather than the words of truth. Secondly we often become double minded speaking Gods word at one time and the enemies lies the next. As a double minded person we are easily beaten James 1:8.

If we long to see deliverance, healing and God's blessing upon our heads we need to use the sword of the spirit; speaking Gods word, words of truth into our situation. But so often we think and speak curses that bring spiritual death and darkness.

We need to be reminded that death and life are found in the tongue; hence it is important that our speech is seasoned with the salt of God's word, words of truth. Proverbs 18:21. When we speak the enemy's words of despair, worry, doubt unbelief or words that do not bring life we are allowing demonic beings to use our sword against us. These words are carnal and death for they are out of alignment of Gods will for us.

What words do we speak and think when God hides his face from us as he did to Job? Thoughts of doubt, worry, anxiety, bitterness, anger, frustration? If we do we are speaking death and curses upon our head and in doing so we are like Adam and Eve allowing Satan a legal toe hold into our hearts.

I have been learning this in a hard and torturous manner concerning my prostate issues that have plagued me for nigh on ten years. I have claimed healing from Isaiah 53 numerous times only to see some time later no change and my thoughts and words were carnal. But I did not realize at the time that such negative thoughts of despair and doubt were hindering the power of God to deliver his blessing. In a manner of speaking I was unstable in my faith as James says; blown about by the enemy.

Carnal words are at first earthly, then unspiritual and finally demonic. James 3:15. Sadly as I am coming to realize I am not alone in killing off the blessings God has prepared for us, but am thankful for his taking the wool of deception off my eyes to see the truth. O God open the eyes of your saints to see the deception that has come over your sheep. Grant them wisdom and a willingness to cast out this wicked women of seduction for today says the Lord my people live in a world of seduction and they will not even acknowledge me. Jeremiah 9:6

We need to become conversant with God's word, which is our sword of truth, for without knowledge of God's word how can we become expert swordsmen? How can we speak life into our situation if we do not know the word to speak?

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. Proverbs 9:9

It is time for the church to return to God's word along with a fear of His Name.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy~think about such things. Phillipians 4:8

If like me you can see the deception we have been under it is time to repent and claim Gods forgiveness for like the prodigal son we have sinned against heaven and God our saviour.

Excellent points in this blog; good food for thought for me, as I am far too often trying to fight back without my sword, more of a sitting duck, wanting to enforce the victory but doing the wrong things or ambling off into valueless distractions. The tongue, yes, who can tame it?

The tongue. I am thinking about how the same tongue can utter praises to God, deliver the words of life and offer up prayer yet at the same time curse, slander and even destroy someone's confidence, reputation and even their life.

As I sat here reading your blog right after listening to a speech John posted on the wall in regards to Israel's response to terrorism, I found myself thinking that the greatest weapon humanity has is the tongue whether it is via spoken word, through signs or written word. It is the tongue that delivers orders for destruction or delivers words that stir within us a passion to work together and help one another.

Excellent blog that greatly underscores what K wrote about the tongue, especially your quote above.
