Biblegateway.com Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'" Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. Genesis 3:1-7 The Forbidden Fruit Effect As a little kid there were things that I have wanted, see commercials on TV and want the stuff sooooo badly. I would beg for my dad to get me stuff and when I did actually get it for my birthday or something, it was a novality for a few days and then, it went in the pile with all the other stuff that wasn't as cool, and I went after some other toy. Eve had this same temptation. The tree of Good and Evil had the forbidden fruit that Eve wanted. It was the only fruit that she wasn't allowed to eat, the only once. It probably looked so good. The serpant tempted her with this, saying it probably was the best fruit in the garden. The temptation to have something she never tried before. Everyday we are tempted with things we ahven't tried before. "I have never tried this before? " most of the time it is something forbidden. In relationships we are tempted to go too far because it is forbidden and we know it will feel good. With things such as food, we are tempted to just eat and eat. We are tempted with the things that are fobidden because we want to risk it ,we want to go for something, we want the trill. In the old cartoon about Wile E. Cayote, he was consitantly after that Roadrunner. Never could catch him, tried everything in the Acme book, but when he finally caught him, he didn't know what to do with him. The trill was over, he didn't know what to do. When we get what was forbidden, we are disappointed in the end because the longing for it makes us expect so much more. Plus, in example with a dating relationship, if we "eat the forbidden fruit" we are sinning just because we cannot control our desires. The Forbidden Fruit Effect is when we want something that we cannot have because it is sin. That in itself can be sinful, just as Jesus said, If we think about sinning with our neighbors wife, we are sinning, so if we are thinking and desire something forbidden, then we are sinning. We must be careful about what we are desiring and the reason behind it. If we are just longing for something that si forbidden just for the trill of it.. then we must not go for it. I pray that this makes sense.
