 About John B. Abela

I am the owner of ChristianBlog and a believer in God's blessings!

I have been a minister for 20+ years and suppose I would describe myself as a literal messianic levitican.

I do not publish very many blogs as I tend to spend my time working on the CB website.

The motto of ChristianBlog.Com is "A place to be blessed and to bless othersI" and I truly do hope that is something that applies to you!

Hearing The Word Of God Without Any Benefit

The word which they heard did not profit them - Hebrews 4:2 (Peshitta) Every so often I will listen to The Word of Promise audiobible instead of some music, while I am working. Yesterday I started at Galatians and made it to the end of Hebrews 3. Today when I started it back up, at chapter 4, the above section of verse 2 caught my attention. The Word was heard but it did not do anything. wow! Stop and think about that. Really. Stop. Think about that. Most of us know that the Holy Text is filled with life changing wisdom. Most of us have probably read the Bible through a few times. Most of us have probably had something we have read (or heard) change us spiritually. But what if you were to sit down and read the entire Bible, or listen to the entire Bible, and not have it change you. What...

The road is out there somewhere!

Sometimes it can be hard to see where the road is. You are driving down the road and it starts to rain - not just any rain, but really really raining kind of rain. The kind of rain where all you want to do is get off the road and stop. Unfortunately, you know that there are about a bazillion other people on the road, and they are either going to keep going as fast as they were - probably the case - or stop right in the middle of the road - which will probably result in the person behind them not slowing down crashing into the back of them. But which decision do you make? Do you slow down just a little bit, do you make a complete stop and hope everybody else does too, or do you just keep moving forward and hope beyond hope that nobody in front of you has stopped in the middle of the road....
Knowing where you are going

Ever been lost? Every look down and wonder if you are going in the right direction? Ever have that moment when you just stop and have a feeling the direction you are going is not the direction you should be going? Ever have that instinctive feeling that something you have planned for later in the day, you should probably skip going too? I am sure most of us know the Bible verse: Not by power nor by might, but by my Spirit Zechariah 4:6 (Peshitta) I am sure that most of us, when we see and read that verse, think about being strong in the Lord. But lately I have been wondering if that is just the first layer of that verse. What if, if we are allowed to peel away a layer, to go a bit deeper, we start to think about how this verse is talking about trusting the Spirit. While we should have...

A little holiday cheer!
John B. Abela+

The holiday cheermeister is soon to arrive! A cheermeister, for those unaware, is an annual party where a whole town is invited to partake of a celebration. So often in the news the only cheermeistering that we hear about is when activists take over a town in protest of this-or-that. The days of when people in towns around the world would come together to cheermeister at a lightening of a town christmas tree, or a gathering together to go christmas caroling, seem to be mostly days gone past. But what can we do to have our days filled with holiday cheer? It is actually quite simple... find some holiday cheer near you and join in to help spread the cheer! Become the cheer and help others find some cheer!...
Patience in the midst of chaos
John B. Abela+

There is something about the holiday seasons that seems to cause people to have elevated stress. Beyond the food, family, buying of gifts, and all of that stuff. It just seems as if people start getting all frazzled during the holidays. Though all the music is of holiday cheer and happy times. Though at the heart of it all, at least what it is suppose to be, is the coming together of family and friends for a few days, or maybe just a few hours, spent together. Perhaps is the travelling. Perhaps it is the fact that others around you are all in a state of high stress and chaos. Perhaps it is just the jolliness of the season. Perhaps, even, it is because you do not celebrate Christmas and it is just another day on a calendar for you and everybody around you is in the Christmas spirit -...
Life in the redwoods

I have been blessed to live in the Redwoods of Northern California for over twenty years. I originate from the hot dry Mojave Desert of Southern California where it was [F114] the day I moved. Life in the Redwoods is typically a very calm life, with little of the hectic lifestyle that one deals with in places like Los Angeles and New York, both places I have been too and have no desire to return too. Of course with this comes a few downsides such as being really far away from any major towns, many of the features and amenities that exist in big cities, slower internet, and periodic power outages. One simply has to decide what they want in life. A Life with Christ is the same way. It can be as chaotic or as peaceful as you want. It offers lifestyle choices that you might find good, and...
Daily bible verses, tithing, and the three most important things!

This morning I opened the ChristianBlog.Com website and lo-and-behold there was noDaily Bible Verse displaying! "Meh?" I asked myself. Turns out, today is a leap day, and because there has not been a Feb 29th over the last three years we have had a daily bible verse, there was never one made for feb-29. So I had the extremely rare chance to add one. The first time in at least three years I think. In order to find a new Bible verse for today, I went meandering around the online Bible we have here at CB and came across Matthew 23:23: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you take tithes of mint, dill, and cummin, and you have overlooked the more important matters of the law, such as justice, mercy, and trustworthiness. These were necessary for you to have done,...

Mobile growth at christianblog

A look into the growth of mobile use at ChristianBlog.Com Over the last year I have invested a great many hours into the redevelopment of the design and layout of the ChristianBlog.Com website, and I have continued to make the statement that it is "for those using mobile devices" or something along that line. I wanted to take a brief moment to share three graphs that really show-case the issue of why this is so important, because I am sure that there are folks out there thinking a lot of these changes are for naught. A computers/devices operating system is the type of device (windows computer/laptop, apple computer/laptop, iphone, android phone, etc) that people use and by tracking/reporting on it, we are able to get the easiest method to compare just how fast or slow a websites...
A look at "logos bible software", version 6
John B. Abela+
published . 10 min read
Greetings Christian Bloggers, Logos Bible Software is an indispensable tool for a lot of clergy and those who really enjoy doing in-depth Bible studies - it also has a place on the computers of Christian bloggers and Christian writers. Version 6 of Logos was recently released and I have had a chance to give it a go for a few months. There are a number of really neat, and useful, new features that I wanted to highlight, that might be of benefit for those who are Christian bloggers and Christian writers. Before we begin, I do want to disclose that I was given an upgrade from Version 5 to Version 6, with the expectations to use it and write a review. I am by no means a Logos power-user, and probably understand how to harness only about 20% of everything that the Logos Bible software offers....
