Why is everything out there horizontal?

Okay, science guys, I have a question. Apologetics' blog on the "God Particle" got me thinking (never a good thing). For a while I've not been able to find out if anyone has ever put forth an answer, or even asked the question, for why the solar system, galaxy, and other galaxies in our three-dimensional universe, all seem to exist on a basically horizontal elliptical plane. In other words, why are there no planets, galaxies, etc. directly below or above us, orbiting on planes perpendicular to ours? Why is our planets axis vertical, while we rotate horizontally? When we send probes to the outer parts of the solar system and beyond, we send them, again, horizontally, past all the planets that orbit the sun on the x-axis, or the "invariable plane". But why? Are......
God's purpose - to reach everyone

God has truly blessed us All as believers in Him. Ephesians 1:3 says Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. What are we to do with our blessing? We pass it on. From the very beginning, this was God's purpose and plan. In Genesis 12, God makes His covenant with Abraham; 1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. 2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Later, God makes Abraham prove......
Sins of the fathers - a boomers confession

I was struck by something a very wise young lady wrote in a blog on this site last month. Shanijane wrote an insightful perspective on why her fellow young people are rejecting church, due to what she termed "Consumerist Spirituality". Her conclusion; If we draw young people into the church with the promises that God is the perfect 'ad on' that will deliver them great happiness and the perfect life with no real sacrifice on their part then is it no wonder, when this fails to materialise, when we fail too see it put into action, that young people will leave the church disillusioned and go shop somewhere else. Lets be careful to explain the true gospel message to our young people, a combination of Gods great love towards us but also the reality of 'the narrow road'......
Can we stop the crying already?

I don't know whether or not to be thankful that the non-stop Michael Jackson media frenzy has overshadowed the pathetic spectacle that is the Mark Sanford story. On the one hand, I'm not thankful that our culture has sunk ever more deeply in the muck of celebrity-obsession/worship. On the other, I'm thankful we've been spared a different, possibly worse spectacle - a self-absorbed, adolescent pol telling us how he spent five days crying with his lover in Argentina. I'd have to say I prefer celebrity worship. Five days of crying?! Never mind that the man is head of a state, with authority to call up the National Guard and possibly commute a death sentence. He's also a husband, father (to four boys, so his example is all the more crucial), businessman and Eagle......
Is our lampstand threatened?

A Threatened Lampstand What's an old chauvinist to do? Last Sunday morning, Father's Day, was a typical example of my conundrum. There I was, standing, in annoyance, next to my lovely, tear-streamed wife in the contemporary worship service of our small church, refraining, as usual, from singing yet another breathless love song to Jesus. This one was about Jesus' "beautiful" face (Isaiah 53:2 notwithstanding). After mentioning my annoyance, and Isaiah's prophecy, to the Pastor after the service, he admitted that he "doesn't really notice the lyrics" of the worship songs. This was not the first such admission by a staff member. A few months earlier, the worship leader was presented with a similar complaint after singing a solo of the highly......
