God, satan, and the rites of baptism

Part of God's purpose of sending His Son was to show us not only the path to Salvation, but also the path to our growth as a Christian. In scripture these steps that Jesus taught us on His own three-year walk were called baptisms. I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (Matt. 3:11 emphasis mine) In these scriptures John the Baptist was referring to the promise coming of Jesus the Messiah. John's was the first mention in scriptures of the necessity for baptism. His, a water baptism was strictly intended to be for repentance. He promised that when Jesus came He would baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire , which would actually......
Where is god in my words?

About the only type writing I do is Christian-based.  I have often been admonished for not using my writing skills more with the comment I hear most often being that God blessed me with this gift and I should use it more often.   While I truly do believe that my writing skills are a gift from God ¦ I also truly believe that what I write is much more powerful if I allow God to show me what I need to reveal. On my own, I admit, I can write a pretty story, tell a pretty tale, and even sound fairly educated and articulate.   But I don t believe that my words reach out and touch someone the way they do when I allow myself to be a ghostwriter for God s words.   Yes, it s true, the content is usually some lesson from my own experiences (usually learned the hard way), but it has always......
God, satan, and valentine’s day

Like many other holidays, Valentine’s Day true meaning has almost become lost in all the commercialism... store displays and television commercials that associate it with flowers, candy, and jewelry... all wrapped up with a big red bow and presented with a sentimental greeting card with cupid and hearts on it. Everyone seems to know that there was a saint involved and that February is all about love and gift giving, but how many of us really know how Valentine’s Day originated, or how it became associated with the affairs of the heart? History There are scholars who believe that this day of love has its roots in a pagan ritual celebrated in February called Lupercalia. Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman......
Reflections of a lie

Who we are is shaped by many factors. -The society we are raised in, our family values, and the total of our experiences... which are the sum of the lessons learned from our trials and tribulations. I dedicate this to my loved ones who have always been there for me, --Not necessarily in agreement, nor necessarily approving of all my decisions or my mistakes, but undeniably there for me when I really needed them. I said, "I'll miss you" but, I didn't then... How could I understand what it meant? When you were just across the street -or a telephone call away? How could I know -how to want you back When you've always been there -for me... ... with me? So when I said, "I'll miss you," ... it was a lie that came true. Time in this life is short... Too......
God, satan, and relationships - communication

Communications are an important aspect of not only our Christian walk, but also in every facet of our lives. Sharing Christ, or sharing of/or about ourselves, can be difficult if we are unable to express or explain our thoughts, feelings, and actions. –And since this series is dealing with relationships, what we are going to discuss today is the importance of communication in any relationship, but specifically marriage. Nearly two years ago, I was a member of a divorce support group here at Christianblog. Always, at some point in all the various discussions that the group had, I often heard the phrases, “He/she just didn’t understand...” or, “He/she just wouldn’t listen to me”. –What made those phrases stand out in my mind was that they were......
Where are you at in your christian walk?

I had the very enjoyable experience of getting to talk to a young Christian while delivering a construction dumpster the other day. –Once again the Lord amazed me with how He could present me with an opportunity to witness at the most unusual times and places! This young Christian explained to me that he was helping out a fellow member of his church whose house had caught fire, and was now being remodeled. I, of course, commended him on helping out a fellow Christian. I explained to him that I was a great believer in practical Christianity... putting our faith in action. He asked me exactly what I meant by that statement. I told him through the years I had seen many examples of Christians who needed help overcoming a problem or addiction. Too many times I had seen brethren who were......
Chatroom or not to chatroom, that is the question!

I am normally the first in any discussion to say that I am not very fond of internet chatrooms, but today that is exactly what I want to discuss with you. Most chatrooms do not interest me because most of them are usually out-of-control and poorly monitored for inappropriate discussions and comments. They especially offend me when the chatroom is suppose to be for Christians… and heaven forbid! … accessible by minors! So today, I want to discuss with you what I feel is one of the most unused asset's that we have on Christianblog. –All of the members of this wonderful website either love to read or write blogs, of course, but how many of you realize what a wonderful opportunity for Christian fellowship you are missing while you are here doing either on this......
A practical look at patterns and relationships - god at work

Many times in my life I have questioned why God has allowed certain situations in my life to happen. The most recent episode involved...believe it not... my love life. -Now I know that is not what you expected me to say, or where you expected me to go with this blog. -But you must understand that I deal with real subjects, just as I believe in keeping my relationship with the Lord real, and my Christian Walk realistic and practical. My past is nothing to be proud of, but how far Christ reached to save me... and how far He has brought me from that darkness... that I am proud of. I am not proud of my weaknesses, imperfections, nor my failures, but I am proud of how Jesus used each of my weaknesses, imperfections, and failures to teach me... help me grow, and mature. -But there I......
Practical christian - finding balance

Life is full of chaos... constant changes and decisions. Even as Christians, everywhere we look is someone trying to tell us how we should think, how we should act, and what we should believe. So how does a young Christian or for that matter any Christian know what to believe or how to act? Well, the standard answer is the scriptures, of course, but in reality that is only part of the answer. The truth is that most Christians pattern their Christian walk after what they were taught by their parents or church, what they hear from the pulpit, and the messages they get through the media. Searching the scriptures to ascertain the truth takes time, and as many discover, often requires a spiritual maturity to discern. The real answer is a bit of all the above. We need to study our scriptures......
God, satan, and relationships - judgment seat

It is difficult being an open and honest person when your past has been less than prism. -But as hard as it can be discussing our past, it is necessary if we hope to build any kind of successful relationships in our future. Sadly, Satan, the Master Deceiver, will always be there whispering in our ear that no one will like, or truly accept us if we tell about our past sins, and (sigh) unfortunately, too many times Old Nick can point to many examples of that very thing happening in our lives. What it all boils down to, my friends and brethren, is that we must be brave enough to trust in Jesus to support us through any possible rejections that we might face. Let me share some interesting facts that I have noted since God convinced me that to be the servant He needed me to be, I had to become......
